Why Supply Chain Unboxed Was Created
Supply chain has been around for centuries in some form or fashion, even long before the term itself existed. Personally, I’ve been immersed in it for over two decades. Over the years, I’ve held many roles; from working on the warehouse floor, moving freight in and out, to leading teams of multiple leaders and hundreds of associates.
I’ve had the opportunity to take part in several grand openings, from buildings as small as 50,000 square feet to massive 1.6 million square foot facilities. I’ve been involved in the design process from the ground up; developing building flow, racking layouts, and implementing 5S systems to improve efficiency. All of this while balancing life as a father, husband, and business owner.
It’s not an easy life, but it’s incredibly rewarding.
Being a supply chain leader can take a toll on your body and your family. But being part of such a dynamic network of people and moving parts is something special. I’ve had the chance to travel the country, spending a lot of time on the road visiting facilities. That lifestyle works well when you’re single, but when I got married, things changed.
My wife knew the life I’d been living, but it hit differently when, just three months into our marriage, I was sent back on the road for six months. (Not exactly how you want to start your first year of marriage.) And yet, here we are; two relocations, one amazing son, and still living a great life together.
So, why did I start Supply Chain Unboxed?
To help others who are navigating the ever-evolving world of supply chain. I want to offer new and upcoming leaders insight, real-world pointers, and the best practices that have worked for me.
Through this blog, I’ll unbox different aspects of the supply chain like:
- Leadership
- Work-life balance
- Kaizen events
- Process improvement
- Performance optimization
I’ll also share advice from mentors and lessons from years of continuous self-development. This won’t always be a step-by-step manual because supply chain isn’t always clean and simple. But through my real-life experiences, we’ll unpack this world one box at a time.
